Synoptix Host IfSE Defence Working Group

Synoptix Host IfSE Defence Working Group

Bob Hylands was proud to host the Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE) UK Defence Working Group (WG) at the Synoptix office for the first time on 28th August.

Building on previous work submitted in support of the UK’s Strategic Defence Review (SDR) 2025 and a planned white paper aimed at senior Ministry of Defence (MOD) stakeholders, the Working Group has now refocused its efforts in light of the SDR’s publication on 2nd June. With this renewed direction, the group has recently re-established its regular meeting schedule.

The primary objective of this latest session was to progress the drafting of a capping paper titled ‘Why Systems Engineering is Important to UK Defence’. This paper aims to address key points highlighted in the SDR and to articulate the critical role that Systems Engineering and Systems Thinking can play in strengthening Defence Capability.

Looking ahead, the intention is to develop a series of supplementary papers. These will explore specific themes in greater depth, further demonstrating the tangible benefits of applying a Systems approach within the defence context.
